“So, when Sarah Andelman, founder and former creative director of colette in Paris, emailed a note to our sales inbox that said, “I would love to buy your brand for my store,” I was excited at the prospect of having our clothing in such a prestigious international boutique. I responded to Sarah immediately and said, “This is Stacy, the founder of BOY MEETS GIRL®. If this is the colette in Paris, I’d be thrilled to work with you!” colette was widely considered one of the most important retailers in the world, featuring an eclectic mix of toys, magazines, furniture, jewelry, and luxury men’s and women’s apparel, all fabulously curated by Sarah. In my opinion, there was no more desirable launching pad internationally for a brand than colette. Little did I know this would be the beginning of a dynamic working relationship and friendship. Sarah ended up ordering my entire core line and, as a result of her commitment, Munir (Partner D) and I felt it was important for me to be there in person to launch the collection. So, I flew to Paris with Brian, while my mother and stepfather babysat our six-month-old son, Dylan, in New York City. I was thrilled that the recent formation with Munir on international expansion was coming together with this Parisian partnership, and I was excited to head to Paris for the meet and greet at colette. I am thankful that the launch was very successful and featured extensively by the press, which was an incredible high, until . . .”

I feel so freaking filled that through my hard ass work I get to meet and work with good humans who change the landscape of the world. My friend model, actress, writer and tv personality @veronicawebb and I have collaborated over the years on a few campaigns 🫶🏼 Veronica is also featured in my book #EMBRACINGTHECALMINTHECHAOS . Her full interview is on page 169-174 and quoted in Chapter 2 _ Be Unstoppable 👏🏼. You can hear our interview on my #audiobook too. One of the questions I asked Veronica was “You were the first Black model to land a major cosmetic deal. How did
that come about?”
Veronica noted see thread , “There are very few professions where women don’t experience a glass
ceiling, based on gender. And modeling is one of those professions. Unfortunately, my sisters—one is a teacher and the other is a
physician—had
to fight dual obstacles of both race and gender. When
I first started in the business, the generally accepted rule was that
Black girls don’t get covers, advertising, or cosmetic contracts. Remember, I was born in 1965, which was the year that African
Americans actually became full citizens in all fifty states, segregation
was outlawed, and we were able to vote. So, when I was coming
into my peak earning years as a model in the early nineties,
there was still a lot of that. The assertion was that Black people
would just buy anyway and therefore products didn’t need to be
made for us, and we didn’t need to be marketed to. In line with that,
the feeling in my industry was that Black models didn’t have to be
paid the same, because we were less valuable—which sends a message
to the consumer that they aren’t valuable either. Thankfully, for me, the perfect confluence of events occurred.
The entire socioeconomic demographic of the United States shifted
to reflect a 1990 Time magazine cover story on “The Browning of
America.”

“Stacy shows us how a dream can take shape, change shape and shape the lives of others all at the same time. Quotes and stories of friends and colleagues who grew their careers alongside her inspire and remind us that we can’t do it all alone. Honest and personal, if you are starting out or just need to be reminded of your “why” - read Embracing The Calm In The Chaos!.” - AA
