“so I reached out to CNN because she had a show called Style with Elsa Klensch. She was the first woman to bring a fashion-focused program to TV, long before the advent of social media and influencers. Her show was the only source of dedicated fashion news, and I was intrigued by that. Elsa wasn’t a designer but she was interviewing all the major industry leaders, and I desired a better understanding of the communication side of things. Ultimately, I was hired to do the internship because I was relentless—I called CNN about a hundred times until I got my now friend Jon Filmon on the phone. I told him: “This internship is for me. I will do everything for you and your team. Please hire me.
While I was interning for Elsa, I got to interview Marc Jacobs at his show downtown in the Bowery and ride in limousines around New York City with Elsa talking about her days at Vogue. It was wild but also very grassroots and hands-on, and I soaked it up like a big sponge. I had to transcribe every interview, and I was quick at it (it must have been those impromptu typewriting classes working with my mom on her business). I also went to fashion shows with Elsa at Bryant Park and became completely obsessed with the frenetic energy. I would see Bill Cunningham running around shooting street style for the New York Times in his blue jacket and watch Anna Wintour glide through the halls like she was on the catwalk. If there was one thing I knew, it was how much I loved the whole business and, in turn, this passion led me to work even harder, especially when things seemed overwhelming.”
I captured this shot of Bill Cunningham at the Tents before he passed away. You can check out this previous post on my blog here.
”Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life. I don’t think you could do away with it. It would be like doing away with civilization.” -Bill Cunningham
It’s NYFW here in NYC, and just like I used to love covering shows for Elsa Klensch, I still enjoy covering shows for my media platforms, showcasing the incredible talent that continues to shine in fashion. While BOY MEETS GIRL® isn’t hosting its own show this season, the energy and creativity on display are as inspiring as ever.
10 Most Memorable Moments From NYFW via Fashion Week Daily written by Freya Drohan February 13, 2020
Yesterday, I attended Off-White’s show in Brooklyn. Vanessa Friedman, Fashion Director at The New York Times, wrote a piece on Ib Kamara taking over Off-White after the passing of Virgil Abloh (RIP). I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but the link is here. It’s next on my list to read.
I was excited to attend this show and brought my sister with me. It was a heartfelt moment when I embraced Virgil Abloh’s sister and father, whom I hadn’t seen since Virgil's funeral. Seeing Virgil's vision carried forward by Ib Kamara was truly beautiful. It’s never easy stepping into someone else's shoes, especially when those shoes belong to someone as iconic as Virgil.
The weather and energy were perfect. Vogue captured who attended which was an array of celebrities and athletes. And I captured the butterflies :)

I wanted to share something my friend Tamsen Fadal posted recently that deeply resonated with me. It reminded me of themes I talk about in my book and how I strive to live my life. It’s not always easy when life gets chaotic, but I try my best to stay present and live each day fully. For all my readers, remember—life is short, so make the most of every moment!
